Background

This page contains notes on the configuration of Mozilla Firefox, and links to AddOns.

Configuration

The following configuration changes can only be done in about:config.

disable tab detach^[1]: Tabs should stay in one window.; browser.tabs.allowTabDetach = false

show protocol in URL: The user should always be aware which protocol the page was loaded with.; browser.urlbar.trimURLs = false

disable "toggle reader view"^[2]: I will never use this function and thus disabled it.; reader.parse-on-load.enabled = false

open links in new tabs: I'd like to open every link in a new tab, except if it is an internal link of the website.; browser.search.openintab = true; browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInTabs = true; browser.urlbar.openintab = true; browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent = true; Links from the history will still be opened in the same tab, there does not appear to be a configuration variable for that.
